Quote of the Day:

"The newspaper is God's prayer list." (Bishop Desmund Tutu, as quoted by Craig Kielburger, worship speaker.)

"Ten ... Nine ... Eight ... Seven ... Six ... Five ... FOUR ... THREE... TWO ... ONE!!!"

countdown
Every night there is a countdown to begin worship.  Imagine the sound of 3500+ energetic, enthusiastic people shouting the last ten seconds of the countdown.
crowd
The incredulous magnitude of fervor in each and every one's heart increases as each praise song is sung. Singing is often accompanied by waving arms and dancing.
dianne race
We cheered on our hero, Dianne Hollinger, who ran the entire 5K Regnuh walk, raising $4422 for hunger relief.  In spite of the heat and altitude, Dianne finished in just over 30 minutes. We were very proud of her!
small groups
Every day we meet in small groups to learn to know new people and talk about our NYC experience.

These boots (or shoes) are made for walking.  We do a lot of walking at NYC.
Ted and Lee
Ted & Lee, a Christian comedy duo, have impressed us so much with their talented gifts, that we felt compelled to "Come & See" them at their workshop.

cindy
The NYC Cabinet challenged the NYC Coordinators to see who could raise the most funds for the Regnuh walk/run.  The NYC coordinators lost and had to dye their hair wild colors.  Above Cindy Laprade with her new hair color.

Journal Entry:

After standing in a long line for breakfast, we went to worship.  Ted & Lee, a comedy team from Virginia, had a way of helping us laugh hysterically one moment and the next moment sitting in stunned silence of inspiration. Following worship, we each went to our first small group session.  Each of us were in groups with people we did not know.  It was an opportunity to expand our circle of friends.

Our youth group (York First) has made the commitment to eat lunch together every day, so that we can keep in touch with each other. There is plenty of free time in the afternoon following workshops on various topics. Today, was the 5K Regnuh Walk/Run and we all went out to cheer on Dianne.

After supper, we attended another worship service. The speaker was Craig Kielburger, who motivated us to care for the poor children of the world. Many of our youth feel called to put their faith in action by attending a mission trip or workcamp. (Ask them about the conga line when they get home).

As our first full day of NYC, we are energized for more.
