by Southern PA District Executive

Three Other Sermon Series
Practicing What Jesus Preached
A guide to daily Christian living.
A 20 part sermons series preached in the first half of 2010.
Being a follower of Jesus is not easy. Then again, unlike the world we live in, faithful Christianity has never assumed that an easier life is “the good life.” The Jesus we encounter at the Sermon on the Mount is already telling us that the way to the blessed, the way to be happy in life is to turn the values of the world upside-down.

Nehemiah
The Nehimah series is about tearing down the walls that keep the church from reaching out to the world with the message of God's love. It is about building walls that include everyone who wants to be a part of the community of faith. It is a story of great personal risk and of trusting God to provide what is needed to accomplish the goal of riching the world for the cause of God's kingdom. --Pastor Don

1. "What's on God's heart?"
Fortress Church vs. Ministry oriented church.
2. "Rebuilding the Wall"

God dwells in the midst of his people and is active in our lives. Just as in Nehemiah’s day there is a lot of rubble all around the Church that needs to be re- built or perhaps reshaped and renewed! What is God calling us to do about it?
3. "Living a life of Greatness"

Living a Life that Counts
4. "Finishing the Task"

With a fresh vision and a challenging leader they rebuild the wall in 52 days and revival breaks out!
5. "The Wonder of the Word"

The gates and walls went up under Nehemiah and the people were pumped with renewed nationalistic pride and spiritual energy. The focus upon the Word of God was then and is now, nothing short of electrifying!

125th Anniversary Sermons
Walt Wiltschek
Sermon preached on September 13, 2009 - “BRICK BY BRICK” - Preached by Walt Wiltschek, Messenger Editor.
Walt's Challenge to First Church . . .
"We're always building, whether we realize it or not. York First, you laid a foundation as a congregation 125 years ago and have done some good building. What will you build now? As you leave here today, I invite you to consider what you are building, how you are building it, and for whom you are building. Blessings to you on that journey. Amen."

Tony Campolo
Message preached on October 4, 2010.
(Note: There is no written message. The following is paraphrased from the CD of his sermon) . . . .
"They’re saying that ordinary people like we are can not impact this neighborhood in the city of York PA, but I’m here to tell you that even though things might be bleak in this town, the York First Church of the Brethren will be known for the love of God and for the justice that it lives out here in York PA."

Curtis Dubble
The Message: “Root Awakening and Extending Branches” preached on November 22, 2009.
Curtis's Challenge to First Church . . .
"Dear friends of the faith, in these changing times and in this present culture, I encourage you to continue to creatively engage in extending your branches."
